Members Corner

Welcome to the 2021 Bowling Season which gets underway from Saturday 24 April at 2pm with the Flag-Raising by our President Ginnette Grimes followed by an opening match between Brian Coles (winner last seasons Shield) and Alaric Evans (runner up.) Working within Government guidelines we will aim to have as few restrictions as possible throughout the season. However, we begin with a maximum of 6 people within any one group and we would ask for the benefit of all, that members observe this guideline. We shall continue to provide Sanitizer and paper towels for cleaning the woods for those who feel more comfortable having an additional layer of protection. Unfortunately, we cannot host an Opening Lunch this year, but with the Sun Inn open for outside catering and drinks, members can of course buy drinks and food from the pub or bring your own picnic basket to have in the Club.

Competitions

We have listened to members views and preferences over the last few seasons and are delighted to welcome back our two main knockout competitions, the Cup (scratch/ non-handicap) and Shield (handicap). This year we are adding a Pairs (full-combined-handicap played to 21 knockout) competition, one player with a plus handicap and one player with zero or a minus handicap. Competition referees (committee members), if requested, will be provided for semi-final and final matches only. Should you want a referee for earlier rounds, please organise this with your opponents Members will be invited to put their names for all competitions by signing up on the Club notice board or emailing the club (info@barnesbowling.org) by 31st May. Should you want to participate in the Pairs competition, but are in need of a partner, please put your name forward and the Club will endeavour to match you will a playing partner.

Competitions Diary

This year we will be introducing a Competition Diary to make booking competition matches simple and reserve the green. It will be located in the Clubhouse - just agree your match day and time and enter it into the diary. Competition matches will no longer be posted to the blackboards. All members of course have access to the Competition Diary. The online booking system used last year was a necessary expedient for booking the green to play but with the Club now open (almost as normal), we want to remove any playing restrictions. Booked competition matches will take preference to turn up and play. The draw for all knockout competitions will be made towards the end of May and they will run from June to September (with the finals for all being played late September).

2021 Competitions

This year, the Challenger-Plus Cup returns - open to all new members and those with a plus-handicap will be scheduled towards the end of June, the Silver Fox Trophy in July. Our much-supported International Day returns in early August. Our three knockout competitions and three fun-days will be the only competitions this year as we try to free up as much playing time as possible for all our members.
